Dating In The Dark: Beauty Is More Than Skin Deep

Submitted by: Bill Preston

The reality show, Dating in the Dark, where two people decide whether to hook up without ever seeing each other outside a pitch black room, has two important lessons for those in the dating sphere. The first is that confidence in yourself and your attractiveness can truly make you appear more physically attractive than you really are. The second lesson is nearly identical, but there is a subtle difference and that is that your inner beauty can be more attractive and potent than your outer beauty, making an ordinary pretty girl beautiful once you get to know her.

Did you catch the difference there? One is that your confidence in your looks makes you more attractive and the other that your beautiful personality makes you more attractive.

For instance, let’s take the so-called hot/handsome guy, Jeff. Not so hot, really. He looked kind of like an elf. However, the reality is that he believed he was hot. And this was what counted. Jeff was the only one out of the three guys who went home with the girl.

His confidence had his chosen date worried from the get go. Renee told the other women she was worried when he saw her she would not meet his high standards of beauty.

Jose was on the right track. He was tired of being every girl’s “best friend” so he decided to put on a bold, confident persona for the show. And it almost worked. When beautiful redheaded Rebecca saw his fairly ordinary looks she later described him as very cute.

The biggest strike against Matt was his obvious lack of self confidence, he even voiced this while dating that he worried he wasn’t attractive enough. Well, guess what, the girls decided he wasn’t. The second strike against him was that he did not have good enough hygiene. Take note men. The girls were repulsed when they examined his bed clothes and saw armpit stains on his white tee-shirt. After seeing that, they gave him the cold shoulder during their dates.

He even told viewers, remember when your mother always told you to have clean underwear? Wear clean underwear!

During the unveiling, both people stood across from one another in the dark and then one at a time, they were illuminated. Then later, if one person wanted to pursue a relationship with their date, they would wait on a balcony. If they didn’t, they would leave (in full view of the balcony) through the front door.

During the unveiling, when it was Rebecca and Jose’s turn, Rebecca smiled when she saw him. She left the room and told the girls he had super white teeth, dark eyes, babylike smooth skin and was very cute but not someone she would gasp at. Jose was slightly stunned by her and described her as very, very pretty.

Gina was not attracted to Matt at all, saying he was scruffy, had a paunch and looked very old. Matt said Gina was cute and seemed very sweet.

Jeff left the dark room and told the other men he thought Deanne was pretty, but not someone he thought was “hot.” On the other hand, after she saw what Jeff looked like Renee told the other girls he was super hot.

But ultimately, Jeff decided to meet her on the balcony. As they left together, he said the experience had actually changed him where he was able to really find someone’s inner beauty and how that enhanced their outer beauty.
